A March 28 earthquake in Myanmar destroyed 15 church buildings and significantly damaged 10 others. Eight million people have been internally displaced by the quake, joining 19 million displaced persons already living in the nation.
At least seven people are dead after tornados ripped through parts of the South and Midwest this week (April 2–4), and more life-threatening severe weather is expected through the weekend.
Mal Underwood, a Brentwood Baptist DR volunteer, described the relief effort as a multi-stage process. “Flood relief is about triaging first responses — getting the mud out and helping families return to a degree of normalcy,” he said.
Christian Solidarity Worldwide and other sources reported the military has increased airstrikes in civilian areas, including Kachin and Karen communities near the epicenter of the earthquake.

Not only did 280 attend the training session, but 170 — 60% of those who came — were new volunteers.
“The church is about the same size numerically as ours. They have a nice facility and it’s pretty good size, but it was devastated. When we gave the pastor the check, he was appreciative — blown away.”
Working alongside non-profits serving those affected by Hurricane Helene is a priority of Tennessee Serves, an initiative headed by Tennessee’s First Lady Maria Lee.
