While the organization claims the drug is safer than a common medication, Bailey notes studies suggest up to 11% of women may experience serious complications. These complications, the studies say, could include infection or hemorrhaging.
The lawsuit reportedly points to Missouri’s consumer protection law and seeks more than $1.8 million in penalties and restitution for women affected. Planned Parenthood reportedly contended the lawsuit “meritless,” and the FDA maintains serious complications from the drug occur in fewer than 0.5% of cases.
