2027 SBC Annual Meeting may move to Indianapolis

Due to a major renovation at the Salt Palace Convention Center, the Southern Baptist Convention must relocate its 2027 Annual Meeting from Salt Lake City, the SBC Executive Committee announced Thursday (May30).

SBC messengers at the 2025 meeting in Dallas will vote on moving the 2027 event to Indianapolis, which was last year’s host city.

The Salt Palace and surrounding area will reportedly undergo a large-scale redevelopment beginning as early as 2027, reducing available space to just over 200,000 square feet — far below the 450,000 square feet typically required for SBC gatherings.

Since 2021, meetings have averaged nearly 12,000 messengers annually. SBC Executive Committee President Jeff Iorg noted the EC explored Western venues but were unable to secure one on short notice.

In Dallas, messengers will also vote on future meetings in St. Louis (2028) and San Antonio (2029), with Orlando set for 2026.
