West Virginia Baptists offer ‘pilot’ missions project for high school girls

Three West Virginia high school girls will have the opportunity for a short-term missionary journey to Belize this summer. Specifically, they will collaborate with missionaries, locals and American students to share the gospel, lead children’s sports camps and share their personal salvation testimonies.

The initiative is a collaboration between the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists and WVCSB Women On Mission (an arm of Woman’s Missionary Union). The focus of the project includes placing more intentionality on cultivating a new generation of Christ-centered, gospel-sharing and mission-advocating mothers, businesswomen, missionaries and pastor wives — as well as affirming the value and necessity of girls and young women within God’s Kingdom, His church and His mission.

Long-term vision

The three students — who will have completed 9th grade to 12th grade — will serve for eight days, with a long-term vision to establish a high school girls sports camp team and competitive sports team, traveling internationally each summer.

The pilot project is July 12–20, with March 15 the deadline to apply. The application is available at 2024 High School Girls Mission Opportunity.

The anticipated cost is $3,750 per student, for which WVCSB will cover one-third and Women On Mission will cover another third. The student will be responsible for the remaining amount.
