Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief chaplains and a quick-response unit deployed to Fordyce, Arkansas, Friday (June 21) following a shooting at a local grocery store. The information was shared on the SBC Disaster Relief Facebook page a little after 7 p.m. Central time.
According to the Arkansas State Police, its Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 11:38 a.m. at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce.
3 fatally wounded
“Fourteen people were injured from gunfire, including 11 civilians — three of whom were fatally wounded. Two of the 14 were law enforcement officers; their injuries are not considered life-threatening,” according to the ASP report. “The suspected shooter (Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg), who is in custody, was also shot and sustained injuries that are regarded as non-life-threatening. … Posey will be charged with three counts of capital murder. Additional charges are pending. He [has been] transported to the Ouachita County Detention Center.”
The injuries of the civilians range from non-life threatening to extremely critical, ASP noted.
‘Our hearts are broken’
“It’s tragic, and our hearts are broken,” said ASP Col. Mike Hagar. “Our prayers, along with Governor Sanders and the entire state of Arkansas, will be with this community and those affected victims.”
