Latest court filing related to former Southwestern prof requests revision

Matt Queen’s attorney filed a letter July 22 in the U.S. Southern District Court, challenging the accuracy of a government press release that charged the former evangelism professor and interim provost at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with falsifying records.

Queen’s attorney Sam Schmidt argued that the May 21 release misrepresented facts about his client and damaged Queen’s reputation, leading to his suspension as lead pastor of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, Greensboro, North Carolina.

Queen, who pleaded not guilty, is accused of mishandling information about an alleged abuse case involving an accused student of the Southwestern Seminary’s undergraduate-level Texas Baptist College.

Request to correct public record

Schmidt claims the government withheld evidence favorable to Queen, and he requested the court’s permission to correct the public record.

The case reportedly revolves around Queen’s involvement in a meeting discussing the abuse allegations and the handling of a related document.
