Tennessee church honors layman for 50 years as RA leader

Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt, Tennessee, recently honored Aubrey Wilson for 50 years as a faithful leader of young men through Royal Ambassadors.

Approximately 200 members attended the celebration in the church’s fellowship hall with some spilling over into the side rooms and gym area. The event included a meal, several gifts and a program with six different speakers, said Danny Sinquefield, Harvest Field 6 team leader for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, who presented a letter and certificate from Randy Davis, president and executive director of the TBMB.

“It was amazing to see several generations of men and their sons sharing their love and appreciation for this godly man who had influenced their lives,” Sinquefield said about the recognition gathering.

RAs is a missions organization for boys in grades 1–6 that helps them develop a Biblical world-view with an emphasis on missions. RAs utilizes activities that are designed to help boys learn about missions and get them personally involved in practical missions experiences while having fun.

Sinquefield said that he knows firsthand how RAs impact young men because his sons were involved in RAs. One of his sons is now pastor of First Baptist Church Milan.

“Some of his best leaders in ministry were men like Aubrey Wilson who understand the value of missions education in the life of young boys,” Sinquefield said.

‘True biblical faithfulness’

Antioch Baptist pastor Bill Espy agreed. “When I think about Aubrey Wilson, I think of the word ‘faithfulness.’ Bro. Aubrey has modeled true biblical faithfulness in his service to young men for five decades.”

Both current and past individuals involved in RAs spoke of their love and appreciation to Wilson. The church presented him with gifts and cards of appreciation.

Mark Stanley presented Wilson with a mantle clock that was given by former RAs to say thank you for the time invested in their lives.

Maegan Pigg, children’s minister at Antioch, observed that Wilson’s 50 years of dedication to Royal Ambassadors “have shaped countless young men into current leaders in the church.”

Mike Kemper, director of missions for Gibson Baptist Association, observed that the “long faithful ministry of Aubrey Wilson in leading the RA ministry for 50 years has impacted generations of young men who now have young men of their own.

“The ripple effect of this faithful ministry will live on for generations to come,” Kemper said.
