This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and its institutional commitment to training students for ministry remains strong, said President Danny Akin in his report to messengers at the 2025 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting on June 11 in Dallas.

Akin said the seminary welcomed its largest-ever incoming fall class in 2024 and achieved record charitable giving. From its undergraduate college — recently renamed Judson College to honor the missionary legacy of Adoniram Judson and his wives — to its master’s and doctoral level programs, Southeastern is training over 5,000 students in North America and globally, Akin said.
“There has never been a better time to pursue an M.Div. at Southeastern, with full tuition scholarships available across various specializations for students studying on our beautiful campus,” Akin said.
Southeastern commissioned more than 40 students to go to the nations and to serve with the North American Mission Board, Akin said, and over 150 students took international short-term courses. The seminary also continues to engage Farsi-speaking students in several Asian countries where it is difficult to live as a Christian and to share the gospel, Akin said.
“Brothers and sisters, there’s a lot of darkness out there,” Akin reminded messengers, “but we have the light of the world to take to them. That’s why I love being a part of the people known as Southern Baptists.”
