WHEN LIFE GOES TERRIBLY WRONG
Genesis 39:21–23; 40:5–8; 41:10–14
No matter who you are, life can be challenging at times. While one could argue that our lives are a sum of our choices, events and circumstances, it does not mean that God is not in control. Even when things do not go as planned, each situation we face is an opportunity to demonstrate Christ to those around us.
Nothing that occurs in your life catches God off guard or diminishes His love for you. Joseph is an excellent example of someone whose life was a roller coaster of highs and lows. His life was interrupted by more than one tragedy and challenging situation.
Despite major setbacks we may experience, God can still show His favor to us. (39:21–23)
Nail this truth to your heart and mind: God is with me! The power of the heavenly Father is not defined by the obstacles you face. No matter what you endure, God remains with you, graciously supplying your needs and blessing you beyond measure.
As you read this, the leaves may be falling outside, and the fall foliage might be at its peak. Let this be a reminder that all around you, seasons and circumstances will change but God does not.
Even though Joseph was imprisoned, he still experienced God’s presence and favor. The hardships we face do not limit God’s blessings.
God can use us in any situation. (40:5–8)
Have you ever thought about how much of the Bible is written from behind prison walls? If we took out the prison stories from Scripture, our view of God would be incomplete. The Apostles Paul and Peter, John the Baptist and others were used powerfully while in prison.
Your hardships do not mean God cannot use you. In fact, the challenges you face create a powerful backdrop for God to do incredible work in your life and to guide others to Him. He can turn obstacles into blessings.
Faithfulness to God, even in trying circumstances, can lead to greater opportunities. (41:10–14)
Sometimes, what we see as a setback can actually set us up for a comeback. By staying faithful to God through service and integrity, new opportunities opened up for Joseph. God’s providence plays a crucial role in each of our lives. If you are having trouble seeing God’s hand in your life, trust His heart. He loves you more than you can imagine and will always bless His children.
You might be in a storm or a spiritual valley where no hope of relief seems possible. You are not there by mistake or bad luck. For reasons you may never fully understand, God has allowed you to go through these times for a greater purpose. Every season of life prepares you for the next.
As you mature in your walk with the Lord, you will be able to look back and see the presence of God in your past situations. This will encourage you in your faith and give you assurance for the future. God wants to use you for His honor and glory. You have not come this far for God to leave you stranded. The opportunities that are in front of you are greater than the obstacles behind you. Stay on this journey. You will be glad you did.
