Since 2007, the report noted, New Life Christian Center had advertised on Durham buses but this arrangement was disrupted when they were told in August its ad violated a policy banning religious advertising. First Liberty Institute, according to their letter, contended the rule amounted to viewpoint discrimination, calling it vague and inconsistently enforced. Citing recent federal court precedent, the group pressured the city to reverse the move. Durham withdrew the ban on Dec. 11, and the church is now allowed to continue advertising its ministry.
