Henry Durand has been appointed editor of The Christian Index, assuming the role this month following more than three years of service with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board and nearly four decades in journalism, photojournalism and newsroom leadership.
Durand served as news editor of The Christian Index from May 2022, where he led daily editorial operations, coverage development, and statewide reporting efforts.

“I tell people I have an easy job,” said Durand. “I brag on God.”
Durand brings more than 35 years of professional media experience to the role. Prior to joining the GBMB, he worked at CNN International Newsource as senior news editor overseeing distribution operations, editorial standards, and newsroom teams. He also held editorial positions with the Associated Press, Thomson Reuters, and CNN, including supervisory roles in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
Durand’s career includes newsroom management, content distribution, copyediting and visual journalism, as well as field work in breaking news and sports coverage. His work has emphasized accuracy, editorial integrity, and strong newsroom operations.
Since joining The Christian Index, Durand has contributed to expanded statewide coverage of Georgia Baptist life, including evangelism initiatives, disaster response, church health, leadership development and missions engagement.
The Christian Index is the official news publication of the Georgia Baptist Convention and has served Georgia Baptists since 1822.
