As Iran war continues, annual Palm Sunday procession in Jerusalem canceled

As the Iran war continues, the annual Palm Sunday procession in Jerusalem has been canceled, church leaders announced Monday (March 23). Meanwhile,  the White House said on Tuesday that talks focused on ending the war continue forward. “We’re in negotiations right now,” President Trump told a group of reporters.

Regardless of the efforts to end the conflict, ongoing security restrictions and a hostile situation make large public gatherings impossible, noted Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa. Though Holy Week plans will reportedly be determined daily. According to multiple news outlets, Israeli authorities have limited assembly sizes and also have closed holy sites in the Old City due to concerns over potential missile strikes.

Last year’s event reportedly drew a crowd of thousands, but leaders now urge continued prayer amid disrupted Easter observances.
