Georgia Baptist Mission Board to end health insurance benefits for retirees

DULUTH, Georgia — The Georgia Baptist Mission Board will cease insurance coverage for its retirees beginning in 2022.

According to a report at Baptist News Global, the GBMB Executive Committee voted in September to end the health care benefit for retirees following a recommendation from its administration committee.

Retirees were notified of the decision in a certified letter, which also provided information about insurance options available through GuideStone Financial Resources, the Southern Baptist retirement and insurance corporation, as well as the health care marketplace.

The move is the latest in a series of cost-cutting efforts at GBMB. Since 2019, the board has seen four separate occasions of staff reductions that have cut the number of full-time employees by more than half, the sale of several properties, including the Georgia Baptist Conference Center at Toccoa, and the anticipated sale of the GBMB’s headquarters building next year.
