Unconstitutional. That’s what a federal judge called the Ten Commandments monument at the Arkansas State Capitol. As result, U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker is ordering its removal while allowing time for expected appeals.
On Tuesday (March 31), she contended the display violated the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause by favoring Christianity, according to multiple news reports.
The ruling blocks a 2015 law permitting the monument, which was first installed in 2017 — and then soon destroyed by a man who reportedly crashed his vehicle into the display. The monument was reinstalled the following year. The National Association of Christian Lawmakers plans to appeal the ruling. They called the decision judicial overreach while plaintiffs represented by the ACLU hailed the ruling as a win for church-state separation, reported World News Group.
