China keeps tightening control over believers, but growth continues, report says

Christians in China continue to feel pressure from the communist government as President Xi Jinping reportedly intensifies efforts to shut down unregistered churches. But according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, arresting more and more Christians apparently hasn’t stopped a resilient movement of house churches from spreading.

The May 18 report noted Chinese President Xi Jinping has continued to unleash efforts to slow continued growth. This crackdown reportedly has included increased digital surveillance, ongoing arrests and interrogating believers who worship at churches that are not state-approved. Officials, according to the report, have pressured landlords and jailed pastors, including Ezra Jin of Zion Church.

President Trump reportedly addressed the issue with Xi during a state visit, but no new developments on Jin have been released at this time.
