Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is growing while staying true to its mission to serve Southern Baptists and work closely with churches, president Jason K. Allen told messengers to the 2026 SBC Annual Meeting in Orlando on June 9.
“Southern Baptists are not our customers, they are our owners,” Allen said. “We delight in serving you.”

Allen highlighted the seminary’s strong financial position. He said the seminary is adding more student housing, scholarships for residential master’s students and more fully online Ph.D. programs — made possible by the support of the Cooperative Program and donors.
“I am grateful for your support,” Allen said.
In response to a messenger’s question regarding whether the seminary should provide the kind of financial disclosure nonprofits routinely give on IRS Form 990, Allen said he does not support that idea for several reasons, including the added burden on staff and concerns that public salary disclosures can create internal acrimony and wage inflation. He cited bidding wars for college football coaches as an example and added that Midwestern uses outside salary data to help guide fair compensation.
