God is doing “good things” on the campus of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, president Jamie Dew told messengers to the 2026 SBC Annual Meeting on June 9.
“Our students are passionate,” Dew said. “They have a clear call on their life, and they have answered that call … to take the gospel to the nations, to preach, to fill the pulpits.”

Dew emphasized that financial gifts from Southern Baptists through the Cooperative Program allow students to earn an affordable “world-class” theological education.
“We’re training up people to serve people and to proclaim Jesus Christ, … and I’m grateful for that,” Dew said.
In response to a question from messenger Will Spivey, next gen pastor of First Baptist Church Opelika, regarding the rising cost of higher education, Dew reiterated that the Cooperative Program is instrumental to keeping costs lower at SBC seminaries. Dew also cited universities that provide upscale amenities to students and added, “at NOBTS, we got one cafeteria. And we’re going to keep it that way to try to keep those costs down so that you can afford to go to school.”
