Well over 1,000 remain missing, according to the latest reports. Meanwhile, Baptists are on the move to join the effort to bring relief to those impacted by the disaster.
What happened? Why now? The cause of the disaster is reportedly due to a collapsed glacier that sent rock and ice into a river, triggering flash floods that swept away homes, roads and bridges, according to news reports. More than 500 foreigners are among the missing, including 90 Americans, the State Department reported. According to the latest reports, Nepal’s military has reportedly rescued more than 100 people by helicopter.
Baptist response
Send Relief, the Southern Baptist compassion ministry of the North American Mission Board and International Mission Board, is coordinating relief efforts — food, first aid and tents. The ministry is asking for continued pray and support to help survivors rebuild. Texans on Mission also announced on social media they are ready to respond as needed.
“Texans on Mission has been in contact with partners on the ground in Nepal to discuss ongoing needs and ways we can minister and provide relief moving forward,” the Facebook post read.
