Hispanic Simultaneous Revivals campaign making a difference in New Mexico

Hispanic Simultaneous Revivals campaign making a difference in New Mexico

Eight churches participated in the Baptist Convention of New Mexico’s 2021 Hispanic Simultaneous Revivals campaign last fall. Based on reports gathered by Ricardo Rivera, leader of the BCNM’s People Groups Team and its state Hispanic strategist, a total of 584 people heard gospel presentations, 10 people rededicated their lives and 53 people received Jesus as their Lord and Savior as a result of the campaign.

Rivera organized the multi-church campaign to motivate churches to “think outside the box” about community evangelism and inspire them to try new outreach approaches.

Each Hispanic church commits to an evangelistic project. The church’s members commit to pray, plan, prepare, execute, follow-up, celebrate and report on the event. In turn, each participating church receives financial assistance toward the cost of the event. Leaders share the gospel at their events and activities as part of the campaign. Then, they report their results — specifically the number of lost people who attend, the number of gospel presentations made and the number of professions of faith made through the events.

Hope Center, Roswell, saw six people saved at their weekend revival — five children and one adult. They had approximately 43 in attendance. Abelardo Bolaños, the church’s pastor, told the Baptist New Mexican that shortly after the revival, he began contacting them about their professions of faith. He said he would continue helping them grow by visiting them regularly. “We do not have much money, but the Lord is blessing us. We have plans to begin new programs soon.”

Churches who participated in the 2021 simultaneous revivals were New Hope Center, Roswell; Praise Chapel, Albuquerque; Iglesia Celebracion Cristiana, Hobbs; Primera Iglesia Bautista, Artesia; Iglesia Bautista Maranatha, Clovis; Iglesia Bautista El Shaddai, Las Cruces; Iglesia Bautista Mesilla Valley, Las Cruces; and Iglesia Bautista Unidos en Cristo, Las Cruces.
