Ninety-three pastors and leaders recently gathered at Calvary Christian Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, for the African American Leadership Conference, focused on equipping churches for evangelism and discipleship.
Hosted by the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, the April 25–26 event featured Mississippi-based speakers addressing church revitalization, leadership development, women in ministry and international missions.
Overcoming complacency
Rev. Leander Bridges challenged churches to overcome post-COVID complacency, while former missionary George Smith emphasized missional living and continued outreach in Uganda.
Rev. Brian Crawford and others led sessions aimed at developing future leaders. Organizers celebrated using local talent, highlighting the strength and doctrinal soundness of Mississippi pastors.
MBCB’s Paula Smith described the conference as a “family reunion,” emphasizing fellowship and encouragement. MBCB consultant Lowell Walker stressed the urgency of evangelism, warning churches against spiritual stagnation. MBCB Executive Director Shawn Parker praised the event for advancing unity and the Great Commission.
