Randy Covington, executive director-treasurer of the Alaska Baptist Resource Network, has announced his plans to retire from that role in September of 2025.
“It is time for someone else to take up this very important mantle of service,” he wrote in the October newsletter to Alaska Baptists. “And its time for Robin and I to start a new journey. Our desire is to assist the convention during the time of transition and make it as smooth as possible.”
50 years of ministry
This coming year will mark 50 years of ministry for Covington and his wife, Robin. He began his role as executive director in 2016. Before that, he served served for 22 years for the International Mission Board in Russia and the Balkans. He also served in various leadership roles at several different churches in Texas and Alaska.
“What a joy to be on the front lines and see the movement of God in so many amazing ways,” he wrote of his time as an IMB missionary. “We experienced things we never could have imagined when we began this journey of faith.”
Through the highs and lows
He added, “God has been good and His grace has carried us
through the high moments and the low. Now, we stand at the threshold of a new journey. Some call it retirement, but we will never retire from His call until that day He calls us home. We choose to be faithful in every stage of life.”
Covington received his bachelor’s in church music at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, and completed his master of arts in religious education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He also received his PhD from Southwestern in education and administration.
“We love Alaska Baptists and have enjoyed your support and encouragement and, at times, patience as we have labored for the Kingdom together,” he said. “Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving in this way.”
