In his first report to SBC messengers as president and CEO of Lifeway, Ryan Blackwell said the organization is more committed than ever to providing resources for the local church that are grounded in Scripture.

Al Mohler introduced his constitutional amendment regarding women preaching as a formal motion during the first business session of the SBC Annual Meeting this morning (June 9), ensuring it will be a focus of discussion in later business sessions.
“We must streamline operations and focus more narrowly on our core functions … The EC has a limited but essential function in the SBC eco-system. Limited does not mean unimportant,” EC president Jeff Iorg shared June 8 during the EC meeting in Orlando.
As Southern Baptists return to Orlando, Florida, for its annual meeting this week, we recall other SBC milestones connected to Orlando.
The Orlando meeting in 2000 is remembered for adopting a revised confession — that strengthened language on biblical authority, formally limited the office of pastor to men, incorporated the family amendment and added clearer statements on several social and moral issues.
In 2009, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary President Danny Akin worked with Johnny Hunt, the SBC president at the time, to flesh out the idea of a Great Commission Resurgence.
Orlando was also the “site” of the canceled 2020 annual meeting because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
