Arizona children’s resource spotlights gender issues, God’s truth

A new resource is available to churches through New Life Pregnancy Center and Arizona Baptist Children’s Services & Family Ministries.

Uniquely U is a brief and simple presentation geared toward children in pre-K through sixth grade. The material highlights how each child is uniquely made in the image of God — as either a boy or a girl — and how they can stand on God’s Word to resist temptations in today’s culture. The goal is to engage with even the youngest children on these important subjects.

The inspiration for this new presentation came through a request to speak in the missions class during VBS at Apollo Baptist Church in Glendale. The theme was “Keepers of the Kingdom: Standing Strong in Today’s Battle for Truth.” Apollo Baptist Church was searching for a group that could speak to transgender issues and sexual immorality on a level that is age-appropriate for young children.

Well equipped

Raquel Kerr and David Trenbeath were excited to help meet this need as they both have young children and know firsthand the necessity of having these conversations early.

With Kerr’s background as a teacher and Trenbeath’s daily life as a father of young boys, they worked together to create messaging that would engage children in fun and creative ways. Kerr and Trenbeath have been leading purity workshops for older students at Zona youth camp — a ministry of the Arizona Mission Network of Southern Baptists — for many years, so they were well equipped to adapt this information for a younger audience.

“We focused on how God loves life and has created each of us to be one-of-a-kind, unique, but especially how he created us male or female (gender identity),” Kerr said. “We shared God’s truth vs. what the world says and closed the presentation with a gospel illustration.”
