“There’s a huge guilt on the SBC for translating the gospel into white bread, middle class Protestantism,” Al Mohler stated in 2009 in reference to how Southern Baptists think about ministering to those who need government assistance.

A team from The Baptist Paper, a sister publication to The Alabama Baptist and part of TAB Media Group, continues its review of the audio files from the 2009–2010 meetings of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library internal policy describes those “welcomed, accepted and respected” as covering “religious preference” as well as “gender identity or expression.” The policy also states employees have the right to be addressed by their preferred pronouns, but it does not address what to do if that right conflicts with another employee’s religious beliefs. The audio files from the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force’s 10 months of work in 2009 and 2010 were sealed for 15 years, the agreed-upon time by the group. The collection is housed in the Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives and consists of 57 compact discs and very few paper documents.

While 11 of the motions made during the morning session were referred to appropriate entities for further consideration and to report back to messengers next year, two will be debated and voted on by this year’s messengers tomorrow, June 11.

Evelyn Tully of Illinois was honored with the 2025 Rosalie Hunt Devoted Patron Award tonight (June 7) during the WMU Foundation’s 30th Anniversary celebration event.
