Eight people were injured Sunday (May 1) in Boulder, Colorado, in what federal investigators have described as a “targeted terrorist attack” on participants of a peaceful walk supporting Israeli hostages.
The suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” and “End Zionists” before igniting and throwing Molotov cocktails at attendees of the “Run for Their Lives” event near Pearl Street Mall, the Associated Press and other media outlets reported. Victims, aged 52 to 88, included an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor. One woman was engulfed in flames, according to media reports, and two victims were airlifted in critical condition.
‘Targeted terror attack’
The FBI labeled the assault a “targeted terror attack,” and federal agencies, including the National Counterterrorism Center, are investigating, the Associated Press reported. Soliman, an Egyptian national who overstayed a U.S. visa, was reportedly arrested at the scene and hospitalized.
There is no current link to organized terror groups, authorities have reported. Colorado officials condemned the attack as a likely hate crime amid rising antisemitic violence, according to media reports.
