Jesus Matters
Colossians 1:15–22
I want you to consider for a moment the power and role of Christ in your life. As a born-again believer, contemplate the reality of His presence in the minutiae of every aspect of your life. The truth is, such an incredible task is impossible.
Some spend their whole lives rejecting Christ, denying Him or even hating Him. On the other hand, even Christians cannot fully comprehend the extent of His love for us and all His tender mercies.
Of all the many attributes and characteristics of Jesus, the reassurance of the truth we discover in Him is where our faith and belief rest. Without Christ, we cannot know God. Without Jesus, there would be no creation to enjoy, no church to belong to and no cross to secure our atonement.
Jesus is the ultimate and eternal expression of God’s love for the world and His plan to redeem it. Through the Bible, God reveals to us what truth is, why it matters and why He alone is worthy of our worship.
Jesus is the Creator of all things. (15–17)
With the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence, ordinary people are beginning to experiment with producing pictures, movies and even music that are not authentic.
The more this technology advances, the harder it will be for some to distinguish fake from reality. However, no matter how impressive it appears, it will still only be something made and not created.
Only Christ can create. You may make a pecan pie, but you cannot create the pecans that are used; only the Creator can. This truth should help strengthen our belief in Him. While the world seeks to patch or mend our deepest needs with cheap imitations, only Jesus can create within us a new heart.
Jesus is the Ruler of all things. (18–20)
It only makes sense that the One who has the ability to create also has the authority to rule. The local church is the perfect example of this. The area of headship is also the source of most church turmoil, and struggles arise when people seek to control what is not theirs.
If God’s Word is your guide in the church (and it should be), it is clear that Jesus is the Head of the Church. He has earned this position by appointment from the Father and through His sacrifice for our sins.
No one can be the Head of the church you attend except Christ. There are leaders, doers, committees and staff in each church, but only Jesus can be the Head if you desire God’s blessings.
Jesus is the Reconciler of all things. (21–22)
Can I interest you in a theme word for 2026? Consider the word reconciliation. It makes the gospel possible and salvation secure.
Because of Christ, one day we will be presented to the Father for approval. When that time comes, God will not consider our sins, looks, status, wealth or the church we attended. He will look only for one thing, the blood of Christ. All who have repented of their sins and trusted in Christ for salvation will be reconciled to Him and deemed worthy of everlasting life.
Have you trusted in this truth? Jesus is Truth and knowing Him in a saving relationship guarantees us an eternity with Him — truth matters. Jesus alone can save.
