Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is reportedly calling on the Texas Department of State Health Services not to renew Camp Mystic’s 2026 license until investigations into last summer’s flooding are complete, according to multiple news sources. The current license expires in early March.

The July 4 flooding disaster along the Guadalupe River took the lives of 27 campers, counselors and a camp director — and more than 130 people died statewide. Patrick pointed to pending legislative probes and a new federal lawsuit that alleges the camp fell short on a required evacuation plan. Camp officials say the property complies with state law and should be allowed to reopen.
