Challenges as well as opportunities exist in not only reaching the Gen Z population, but in mobilizing that demographic for the cause of Christ. Both facets were involved in a REFOCUS event Tuesday (Jan. 28) that will be repeated at several Kentucky Baptist locations later this week.
Tim McKnight, associate professor of missions and youth ministry and director of the Great Commission Center at Anderson University, led a session at the Kentucky Baptist Convention Building on Monday that was simulcast at Immanuel Baptist Church in Corbin, Burlington Baptist Church in Burlington and Westside Baptist Church in Murray.
McKnight addressed the question of why Gen Zers — those born between 1997 and 2012 — often leave the church between the ages of 18 and 29. “How do we stop that trend and give our people a good foundation in the faith and pass on the faith?” he asked.
