Christian school battles law banning funding for religious schools

A Christian school and a state-authorized educational choice group have asked a U.S. district court to strike down Colorado’s ban on funding religious education, arguing it violates the Constitution, Decision Magazine reported.

Education ReEnvisioned BOCES contracted in August of last year with Riverstone Academy, a Christian school offering tuition-free education with Bible-based instruction, according to the report. State law bars such partnerships with religious schools, the Colorado Department of Education contended.

Attorneys with First & Fourteenth, First Liberty Institute and Miller Farmer Carlson said the policy violates the First and 14th Amendments and are seeking declaratory relief and a permanent injunction against state officials, the report said.
