In ongoing attacks against certain minorities, Myanmar’s military killed two people in recent airstrikes on two mostly Christian villages.
The Tatmadaw bombed the villages of Tsun Taung and Chat in the Mindat township in Myanmar’s Chin state, which is predominantly Christian. According to relief group Barnabas Fund, sources say the Tatmadaw specifically targeted a church and a school in the attack.
Some who were displaced from other villages had sought refuge there.
“The Chin population … is thought to be at least 90% Christian,” Barnabas Fund reported. “The Tatmadaw has for many years persecuted the Christian-majority Chin, Kachin and Karen ethnic groups as well as Muslim-majority Rohingya.”
Of the thousands who have fled violence in Chin state, some 1,800 have crossed the border into India looking for safety, Barnabas Fund reported.
Myanmar (also known as Burma) is No. 12 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
