A mother and five others were arrested in recent months on false charges of using a birthday party to convert people to Christianity.
The arrests occurred during a birthday party in Maharajganj, India, for the 7-year-old son of Mahendra Kumar and wife, Indrakla, stated Morning Star News in a recent article. Indrakla and five other women were arrested after members of the extremist group Vishwa Hindu Parishad claimed Indrakla lured Dalits to the party to convert them. (Dalits are considered to be below even the lowest tier of the Hindu caste system.)
Eleven of India’s states have anti-conversion laws.
The six women arrested spent a month in jail. Four of the women are Christians, stated Morning Star.
Kumar and Indrakla have filed a court complaint under the criminal code in regard to the harassment they have experienced since the arrest.
India is No. 10 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
