Local, state and federal authorities are investigating a school shooting in Wisconsin, where at least three fatalities have been reported — among the dead is the alleged shooter.
Police were called to Abundant Life Christian School in Madison shortly before 11 a.m. Monday morning (Dec. 16) after they received a call of “an active shooter.”
“When officers arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds,” said Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes, who spoke briefly with the media following the shooting. The shooter was dead when police arrived at the school, he noted.
‘Sad, sad day’
“Today is a sad, sad day — not only for Madison but for our entire country, where another police chief is doing a press conference to speak about violence in our community,” said Barnes, who declined to give specifics about the shooting, the alleged shooter or the victims at the time.
He noted that seven people were transported from the school to area hospitals for treatment.
“This is something we all prepare for, but hope we never have to do,” Barnes said.
Authorities are expected to release more information as it is available.
