Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College remain dedicated to prayer, gospel proclamation and evangelism at home and abroad, President David Dockery told messengers June 12 in his report at the 2024 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.
Acknowledging the seminary’s ongoing accreditation warnings and “ongoing complex legal matters,” Dockery said there are signs of renewal and recovery, including increased student enrollment and credit hours, an improved budget and cash reserves with no short-term debt.

“Southwestern’s diverse student body and international reach continue to grow, maintaining its long-standing dedication to evangelism, missions and ministry preparation,” Dockery said.
‘Dependence on God’
Dockery said regular campus-wide prayer meetings are being held “to remind us of our total dependence on God for the carrying out of our distinctive mission.”
“Whatever good that has taken place at Southwestern in recent months has come as a gift of God’s grace as the various aspects of the seminaries constituencies have prayed faithfully and fervently for God’s kindness and favor and blessings,” he said.
Dockery added that the seminary has enhanced student life and formed a partnership with the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center, emphasizing sanctity of life commitments.
“There remains a sense of joyful hopefulness across the entire campus,” he said. “We pray that God will continue to bring renewal, recovery and rebuilding to Southwestern as board members, faculty, staff and students work together in our shared service for the good of Southwestern and for the glory of our great and majestic God.”
