Dockery says Southwestern has seen improvement in all areas ‘year after year’

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has eliminated debt and improved its financial position, but the campus also has seen spiritual and cultural renewal, president David Dockery said in his June 9 report to messengers to the 2026 SBC Annual Meeting.

Dockery said all areas of operational health have improved, and the seminary is awaiting a final accreditation decision from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

“What can’t be measured by an accreditation report is that by God’s grace, the spiritual health, campus culture and the sense of community and camaraderie [at Southwestern] have continued to improve year after year,” Dockery said.

“We remain deeply grateful for your prayers, your generous support through the Cooperative Program and your ongoing encouragement. By God’s amazing kindness and grace, Southwestern Seminary is in an incredibly different place than was the case 45 months ago. The measurable institutional turnaround has touched every area of campus. We are hopeful for the future.”
