Eddie Lopez of First Baptist Church Forney, Texas, en Español announced May 30 he will be nominated for second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention. He will be nominated by Matt Kendrick, pastor of Redemption City Church, Fort Worth, Baptist Press reported.

For 20 years, Lopez has preached at FBC Forney en Español.
Kendrick noted, “He is a faithful man, disciple-maker and exemplary church planter.
“His church has planted four churches, sends mission teams to Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico and supports an IMB missionary in Spain,” Kendrick added. “We need more men like him leading our Convention toward multiplying disciples, both here and around the world.”
Lopez has served in leadership roles on both the state and national level — as first vice president of SBTC for the past two years, and he has worked on the 2024 SBC Committee on Resolutions.
