Evangelist’s case goes before the Supreme Court

Authorities arrested Gabriel Olivier in 2021 after refusing to remain in a designated protest zone in Brandon. In response, Olivier filed a lawsuit, claiming the rule violates his First Amendment rights. Lower courts reportedly dismissed the case under Heck v. Humphrey, which limits civil challenges to laws underlying a conviction. Justices looked at whether that precedent should bar future constitutional claims.

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver a decision next year.
