New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Leavell College celebrated a historic commencement on Dec. 16 at the Mississippi Correctional Institute for Women in Rankin County. Twelve women graduated with degrees in Christian Service, becoming the first female field ministers in Mississippi’s prison system.
Beth Masters, MCIW Extension Center director, praised the graduates’ spiritual growth and leadership, emphasizing their commitment to disciple-making and integrity. Four graduates will serve as field ministers at Delta Correctional Facility, expanding faith-based initiatives.
Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain expressed gratitude for the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board’s annual $90,000 support, enabling transformative programs like this. He underscored the role of chapels in rehabilitation.
