Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief efforts throughout south Georgia continue in the wake of Hurricane Helene. According to Dwain Carter, GBDR director, Sunday (Nov. 3) marked the 38th day of the relief response.
GBDR, in partnership with other Disaster Relief partners from out of state, is currently operating in Douglas, Sandersville, Swainsboro, and Augusta.

Carter said that to date GBDR and its partners have completed well over 1000 chainsaw/tree service requests, tarped hundreds of roofs, and prepared more than 400,000 meals for the public and volunteers. Carter said there is still much work to be done, and there are several hundred outstanding requests for chainsaw teams.
The impact of the relief efforts has been spiritual as well as physical. Carter reports that 119 people have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior through the witnessing efforts of Disaster Relief volunteers.
“Our DR volunteers are exhausted,” Carter said, noting the toll the work has taken. “We have had an average of almost 300 volunteers per day for the 38 days.”
Last day of relief efforts
Carter said Nov. 15 will be the last day of relief efforts until 2025. “I do know that there are a lot of people that still have needs,” he said. “We will be back after the first of the year to start in several other areas of need.”
