A federal court ruling out of Texas in early August says it is unlawful for health care professionals to be forced to violate their consciences for gender transition procedures.
In an explainer written by the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the organization shared the history of the lawsuit and the response from both the Obama and Trump administrations.
This is now the second court ruling blocking the administration from enforcing the policy. The first ruling was handed down by a federal court in North Dakota.
The Biden administration will have 60 days to decide whether to appeal the court’s ruling.
In the meantime, health care professionals throughout the country can continue serving according to their religious beliefs, without fear of retribution.
