Dr. Joe McKeever was born and raised in rural Alabama, lived in the coal fields of West Virginia during part of his childhood and spent his early adulthood in Birmingham, Alabama. He lived in New Orleans from age 24-27, in Mississippi from 27 to 46, in North Carolina from 46 to 50 and then back to New Orleans where he now resides.

Joe was saved at New Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church in 1951 and answered God’s call into the ministry at West End Baptist Church, Birmingham in 1961. He earned the Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1967 and 1973 respectively.

He pastored Unity Baptist Church, Kimberly, Alabama and Paradis Baptist Church, New Orleans during his college and seminary years. He then served churches in Mississippi, North Carolina and ended his pastoral ministry at First Baptist Church, Kenner, Louisiana.

Dr. McKeever became Director of Missions for the 100 Southern Baptist Churches of metro New Orleans where he served until his retirement in 2009. He maintains an office at the FBC, Keener Church where he is working on writing 3 books, and plans his speaking engagements for revivals, conferences, deacon training, leadership banquets, etc.

Many people know Joe due to his wonderful Christian cartoons which have appeared in numerous magazines through the years.

Joe is married to Margaret Henderson McKeever and they have 3 children: Neil, Marty and Carla, as well 8 grandchildren.
