The legal battle continues. Former Southern Baptist Convention President Johnny Hunt has appealed a federal court’s dismissal of the final claim in his lawsuit against the SBC, its Executive Committee and Guidepost Solutions.

On Aug. 18, Hunt’s attorneys filed the notice of appeal. They challenged several rulings dating to March 2024. The case originally focused on Hunt’s inclusion in Guidepost’s 2022 report examining the SBC Executive Committee’s handling of sexual abuse allegations.
A March 2025 ruling granted summary judgment to defendants on all but one claim involving a 2022 tweet by then-SBC President Bart Barber. Chief Judge William L. Campbell Jr. later reconsidered that claim.
