The Arab Center for Consulting and Training Services (ACCTS) led by Nabeeh and Ruba Abbassi in Jordan is stepping “into a new season” and changing its name to ATHAR. It will also begin operating under the umbrella of the Jordan Baptist Convention.

The Arabic word ATHAR means “impact” in English, and as the ministry’s new name, it stands for Acts of love, Transforming lives, Healed by grace, Anchored in Christ and Reaching communities.

The Abbassis wrote in a press release Jan. 12 that the acronym “reflects the heart of our calling.”

Arab Woman Today, youth ministry to stay the same

They also shared that the transition “represents a refreshed identity and renewed vision, while our mission, values, programs and internal departments,” including Arab Woman Today (AWT) and youth ministry, “remain unchanged.”

AWT — which started more than 25 years ago as a radio talk show — offers online and in-person training for Arab women. Arab Youth Visionaries empowers youth to become stronger individuals and community members.

“The work you know and support continues with the same team, structure and deep commitment to serving the Lord in Jordan, the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region and our communities,” the Abbassis wrote.

As part of this new season, ATHAR will also come under the umbrella of the JBC.

“This step provides strengthened ecclesial covering, liability and alignment, while also giving us greater freedom to grow and increase our impact beyond the limitations of our previous government registration status,” the Abbassis wrote.
