A federal judge has dismissed all but one claim in former Southern Baptist Convention President Johnny Hunt’s lawsuit against the SBC, its Executive Committee, and Guidepost Solutions.
Judge William Campbell granted the defense’s request for summary judgment, eliminating claims of false light, public disclosure of private facts, and emotional distress. The only remaining claim is Hunt’s allegation that an SBC tweet defamed him.

SBC Executive Committee President Jeff Iorg welcomed the ruling, stating it marks progress in the legal process.
The lawsuit stemmed from a Guidepost Solutions investigation that named Hunt in a sexual abuse report commissioned by the SBC. Hunt has denied wrongdoing and sued for defamation.
With Guidepost fully dismissed from the case and most claims against the SBC dropped, the legal battle now centers solely on whether the SBC’s tweet constituted defamation.
