A seven-man delegation from Hopewell Baptist Church in Kentucky drove more than three hours one-way to deliver a $10,000 check to help Faith Baptist of Myra in its efforts to recover from a February flood that caused extensive damage, which included water four feet deep in the church basement.
Pastor Doug Wesley, who has pastored Hopewell for nearly 15 years, said Hopewell would not be considered a big church and “not a rich church at all, but at the same time we realize we are financially blessed. So we understand that to whom much is given, much is expected. We are trying to be Kingdom minded and not just look at our church and ourselves, but we are trying to look outward and be a blessing to our sister churches.”

That desire was on display March 21. “I have never seen such love,” said Faith Baptist pastor Dave Hammond. “I had never met the pastor or even heard of Hopewell, but they were a blessing. I’ve never seen anyone drive down and present a check and drive back.”
“We were trying to be good neighbors and help them out as they try to recover after experiencing the devastation of the flood,” Wesley said. “When we showed up, they were working on it. You could see all the debris — they have $50,000 to $60,000 worth of loss. But the church is doing a great work there in Pike County — it’s awesome what God is doing there.”
