A Calvert City man was arrested and formally charged following an investigation into the explosion incident that happened in June at Lone Oak First Baptist Church.
The Sheriff’s Office said detectives had continued to investigate the incident for the month and a half since the explosion. On Monday, they served 41-year-old Jessie Reed with a criminal summons for criminal mischief.

Authorities said Reed reportedly made a sparkler bomb in his vehicle while at the job site and then asked a co-worker to cut a portion of the sparklers off, which caused the explosion on June 16.
Reed and another man received life-saving treatment from first responders and were taken by ambulance to a local hospital before being transferred out of state for further treatment.
Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, the Paducah Police Bomb Squad, an explosive-detecting K-9 from Kentucky State Police and the ATF worked the scene for several hours. Witnesses and one of the victims spoke with investigators about what they saw and determined at the time it was not part of the ongoing construction at the church.
