Little Rock church shines gospel light through raising banners for Jesus

Members of Little Rock Immanuel Chinese Baptist Church have been raising banners for Jesus.

Since last year, on certain Saturdays and Sundays, they have been standing outside Mr. Chen’s Oriental Supermarket on University Drive in Little Rock, Arkansas. They hold various signs proclaiming, “Jesus is Lord,” “Jesus saves me,” and “We can pray for you,” written in three languages — Chinese, English and Spanish. They also distribute gospel tracts, candies and other items.

Pastor Chunhai Li said it is just one way they evangelize and share the gospel with their community. They use the five-colored beads to explain the gospel. The black, red, white, green and yellow beads represent sin, the cross, cleansing, new life and heaven, respectively. He said many parents bring their children to participate, so that from a young age they can be trained to share the gospel for Jesus and to be His disciples.

“The Lord wants us to do that. It is exciting. We’re always trying to praise the name of Jesus Christ,” Li said. “We want to try more, to do more.”

There have been touching moments, Li said. For example, at the end of one sign-holding afternoon, they joined hands and prayed together. A Chinese brother from Memphis suddenly joined them in the middle, tears streaming down his face, praying and praising the name of Jesus with them.

On another occasion, a group of American sisters came up to them and said, “Thank Jesus so much! You are doing what pleases the Lord.”

On the Saturday before Thanksgiving of this year, a young man from Honduras who was baptized in October approached them and told them, “It’s very encouraging to see our Christians standing firm, raising banners for Jesus, and praising His name.” He also joined them to hold the banner together. Li said, “All we are trying to do is to let His name be known and glorify our Lord’s name!”
