Mississippi executive committee reassigns staff, elects officers

Mississippi Baptists have reassigned two staff members to different roles. The Mississippi Baptist Convention Board executive committee, during a Dec. 5 meeting, voted that Michael Lee move from serving as chief strategy officer to the newly created post of human resources officer.

Jon Martin, currently men’s ministry director, will be promoted to chief strategy officer.

Lee will serve and function directly under the leadership and direction of the MBCB executive director-treasurer in all areas pertaining to personnel: staff recruitment, training and development; benefits coordination; employee relations; legal issues; and corporate image.

Other changes

In addition, Lee will serve as a member of the administrative team for all MBCB members.

Lee holds degrees from Mississippi State University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to joining the MBCB staff he was a staff member and pastor of several churches.

Martin also will serve under the leadership of the executive director-treasurer in areas of convention strategic planning, program implementation and ministry oversight. He also will be a liaison for associational ministries.

Martin holds degrees from East Central Community College, the University of Southern Mississippi and New Orleans Seminary. Prior to serving with MBCB he was student pastor at East Philadelphia Baptist Church Philadelphia, associate pastor of Highland Baptist Meridian; and pastor of First Baptist Union. He was also adjunct professor of philosophy and religion at East Central College.

Both will assume their new roles Jan. 1.

Election of officers

Executive committee members elected a new vice chairman/chairman-elect and secretary. Andrew Chesteen will serve as vice chairman and Donnie Stuart will be secretary.

The vice chairman becomes chairman-elect for the upcoming year.

SB DataTech

Executive committee members also voted to authorize the transfer of up to $50,000 from the MBCB operating fund to cover the cost of SB DataTech, a consortium of Southern Baptist entities and state conventions that provides a system to help manage contacts and statistical information. The platform makes information from the Annual Church Profile and other data more efficient.
