More than 10 Christians killed by Islamic extremists in DRC

More than 10 Christians were killed June 21 when Islamist extremists ambushed three vehicles just days after a similar deadly attack.

The extremist group Allied Democratic Forces carried out the rampage June 21 on Beni-Kasindi Road in the embattled Beni territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The rights group International Christian Concern said militant forces reportedly blocked the road and shot all occupants of the vehicles before setting them ablaze.

‘We only live by God’s mercy’

Five people were killed June 17 in a similar attack on Beni-Butembo Road, ICC reported.

One source told ICC there is “no single day that they do not kill people. The villages are unsafe. The roads are unsafe. The towns are unsafe. We only live by God’s mercy.”

The day before the June 21 ambush, heads of state of the East African Community met in Nairobi, Kenya, about security concerns in eastern DRC.

DRC is No. 40 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
