The response to the recent damaging storms in Indiana showed the strength of Southern Baptist cooperation when a disaster overwhelms the capacity of one state, said Dwain Carter, director of Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief. Georgia volunteers worked alongside teams from Kentucky, Oklahoma, New England, Minnesota-Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Iowa, as well as Indiana responders in their home state.
“When you have a need, and more come to help, the better you are in meeting the needs that are out there,” Carter said.
The need after a major disaster can quickly become overwhelming, Carter said. A large-scale response can involve 400 or 500 work requests from homeowners who need trees removed, homes cleaned out, or other recovery work completed.
