First Baptist Church Hagerman, New Mexico, and its surrounding community came together to host Bobcat Bible Break, an event for kids released early from school on early-release days but whose parents cannot pick them up until later. The event offers the kids a safe place to go after school and a place to learn about Jesus.
Each early-release day at Hagerman Elementary in Hagerman, church volunteers and school staff meet. Around 60 to 70 elementary children, pre-K through 6th grade, also meet there. Each of the kids has a waiver signed by their parents, and the school staff and church volunteers check their lists to ensure they have all the kids.
Bible focused
After they finish, the kids and the church volunteers head to FBC Hagerman, a church just down the street. The volunteers come from different churches: some from the church, some from First Presbyterian Church, Hagerman, and some from First Presbyterian Church, Dexter.
Once at the church, the volunteers break the kids into groups according to their age and lead them through a Bible study, crafts, games and free time, all of which encircles a Bible verse for the day. The event lasts for three hours, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
